Les sénégalaises et la sénégauloise

Director Alice Diop was born in France to Senegalese parents. During a month spent in Senegal, equipped with a small camera, she films daily life. She portrays three women from her family: Néné and her two daughters Mouille and Mame Sarr. “(…) This courtyard is my mother’s courtyard, that of her childhood. This courtyard is where I could have been born. I am somewhat filming what my life could have been, I realize how close I was to being born on the “right side”. I can measure from here the transformation of exile , all that is lost by leaving, all that is gained.”
